Artist statements are funny things to write. It’s so easy to become self absorbed and to pontificate with great weighty statements. What I can say, withholding all art speak, (and I do know how to do art speak as I was the founder of an international sculpture magazine, is this: I have devoted my life to things artistic; it has been the sum total of my life and I hold nothing so dear. When I approach the arts it is with the thread of a lifetime of creative considerations.  Joyful art-making is my currency, and this is what I bring to all my work.

I care about the impact my public art brings to communities. I care that what I do is honest, careful, considered and brings light and joy to my audience.   I really don’t care where I stand in light of historical art movements. My work must speak for itself, though it has been spoken of by many.

Bio

I have been fortunate to have been born into a family of travelers. This has influenced me greatly in terms of my work.  I am truly a xenophile when it comes to other cultures and that influences both my work and my outlook. My art life started early. As a child I was drawn into the art world by a series of extraordinary people who helped me shape my creative life. I moved to England and Europe at the age of 9 and to Africa at the age of 15. After 7 years in art schools back in Canada, my work once again took me around the world, completing monumental public sculpture on almost every continent.
